The Shelby Cullom Davis Scholarship"Colby was the best education I’ve ever received. I met lifelong friends with whom I still stay in touch. I also remember the extraordinary cold winters!" So says Andrew A. Davis ‘85, who, along with his grandfather, Shelby Cullom Davis, established The Shelby Cullom Davis Scholarship in 1994."Colby’s Economics Department prepared me exceptionally well for my business career. Coupled with a terrific mentor, it made pursuit of an M.B.A. unneccessary." Mr. Davis continues, “Colby is not a training college; it is a place where you learn to learn. Colby continues to turn out well-rounded and creative thinkers in all departments.”Mr. Davis was fortunate to have the financial security provided by his parents and grandparents to focus on his studies and not worry about his next tuition bill. By establishing this scholarship, he hopes to “provide that same sense of support for deserving students, so that they can worry less about finances and more fully enjoy the intellectual stimulation and the unique experience of their years at Colby.”Mr. Davis is president of Davis Selected Advisors. An administrative science major at Colby, he is now a member of the Board of Trustees and has served as an Admissions volunteer, Career Services volunteer, and January internship sponsor. Colby presented him with an honorary M.A. in 1999.
