Anne Bither Shire '49, her husband, Donald, and their son, Andrew '79

The scholarship was established by Anne Bither Shire ’49, her husband, Donald, and their son, Andrew ’79, in honor of their father and grandfather. Roy A. Bither was born in Linneus, Maine, and he taught geology and history for 37 years at Ricker Classical Institute and Ricker College in Houlton, Maine. He received his M.A. from Harvard and an honorary doctorate from Ricker College. He also served as headmaster of R.C.I. and president of Ricker College. On retirement he served as a trustee of Ricker and was elected to the Maine state legislature. This scholarship in his memory will benefit students from Aroostook and Washington Counties.
